I used the move tool in my front cover, double page spread, and contents page. I used it to place my text boxes and images in the places I wanted. This tool was very helpful as it also allowed me to resize them. I also used the magnetic lasso tool most of the time on all three pages of my magazine. Firstly, I used this on the front cover for the picture of my model as I wanted to crop him out so that the background of the park wasn’t showing. This tool allowed me to detect the edge of a picture and trace along its outline. I also used this tool for my double page spread for the reason of blurring my background to make the model stand out. However, I found this quite tricky as it’s hard to outline the image itself perfectly. I also used this tool for my contents page. The magic wand is another tool I used. In my front cover, this wand was helpful as it allows me to select an area of an image based on its color. In order to determine the exact selection, I was able to change the tolerance and this determines how closely I want to match colours for example I would use a high tolerance to get the whole outline of my model, whereas a lower tolerance will only get small bits of the image. Using magic wand was difficult at times because there was a point were I would click on the section of the image however it would click on a huger section rather than the specific small section I needed. In order to fix this, I simply pressed shift or alt, and this helped me subtract or add to the selection. This magic wand was helpful for my front cover, double page spread, and contents page. If I wanted to change the fill of a text or image, I simply had to click on it using magic wand, then use the paint bucket tool to change the color. The type tool is very helpful as it allows you to add text to a Photoshop document whether it’s single letters or paragraphs. This tool is very helpful especially for the three documents I have created as they all include texts. From using text, I could also highlight it and change the font, size, or colour. I was even able to add effects to the text. This clone stamp tool allowed me to duplicate parts of images. This was helpful as it's easy to use and you’re able to make the picture still look as realistic as it was. I had a problem when using the magnetic lasso tool to blur out the background. The tool did not let me outline the background image when outlining the models image so there were bits that were blurred, whereas the other sections were sharp. I had to clone the blurred section into the sharp section so that it looked he same. The clone stamp tool was very helpful for this. I also used the spot healing brush for the three pictures of the model in order to remove any blemishes or imperfections found in the pictures. Another tool I used was the eraser tool which was a brush that erases pixels as you drag it across the image. Pictures are then erased to transparency, or the background colour if the layer is locked. This tool was particularly helpful for my fron cover, as I used it to erase the bottom of the "OO" in the masthead, in order to reveal my models face as it was in the way. The paint bucket tool is very helpful as it fills in an entire selection of an image with any colour you choose to use. The gaussian blur tool was useful as it adds a low frequency detail effect and allows any image to be made hazy in order to make something else stand out. I used this in terms of making my model stand out against the background so that he is more noticeable as the double page spread was about him, so he had to be made eye-catching. The grid tool was very helpful as it allowed me to allign my layers, shapes, images, text and others, with the grid itself in order to look professional and tidy. I used this for all three pages as I wanted them all to look as neat as possible. Without the grid, the text and images wouldn't be alligned properly so this would make it look messy.
