The last exorcism analysis

I decided to look at the last exorcism website to develop a better understanding of how they managed to add the horror effect. The colours used in this website are quite gloomy which does represent the film itself. They have kept the colours to grey and black, with a white background. The picture in the middle of the website is of a young girl bending back ways and this gives the readers the idea that she is possibly possessed. This also adds to the effect of the page as it gives it the more supernatural look. They have used a shadow effect to portray the genre of the film as this makes it look creepier. This picture makes the audience question who this girl is and why she is like that. As this is the main picture of the website, it will make the audience more known of this character when watching the film.

The tag line says “Believe in him” and is written in a black serif font. The tag line itself would make the audience think that it could be based on religion especially that there is a smaller image beneath the tag line of a cross. Therefore “him” could relate to “God”. The tag line is at the top therefore even though the font size is small, it does appeal to the eye. The title is placed in the middle of the page therefore this is visually appealing to the eye. The title is very bold and has a spooky look to it that goes well with the genre. As the word exorcism refers to freeing an evil spirit, the picture beneath would also make the viewers question what the storyline could base.

On the website, there are many black shapes of which give the readers websites that they can go to in order to find out more about the film for example “extra footage”, “tickets”, and more. The shapes itself have been edited with a scary look to it to add that extra horror effect onto it. There are social networking buttons placed beneath such as facebook and twitter and this is so that the readers can access groups linked to the film and find out more. Also, this will allow the readers to discuss with others their opinions on the trailer and the website.

By adding reviews of the film, this encourages readers to watch the film due to the positive reviews around the website. Some of the words in the reviews are put in a bold and larger font such as “TRULY CHILLING” or “FRIGHTENING” therefore making this stand out and appeal to the viewers.
