This poster is very consistent throughout as they use the same blue and black colours with the white to stand out. This also links with the picture as the colours used are the same which makes the picture look more professional to the audience, and makes the general theme look very consistent. These colours are very dark and gloomy which really represents the film. The colours are kept to a minimum of white and blue, in contrast to the black background. The colours used give the audience the impression that it is a horror film. The colours, especially in the main image, are blended together and this creates a type of shadow, adding to the eeriness of the poster. The colours are subtle and blend well together with a gloomy effect.
The tagline reads “Some cases should never be opened”. The tag line is an effective way to promote and sell the movie. It also adds to the suspense and interest that a person will have about the movie. It also gives the audience an idea of what to expect in the film. This tag line makes the audience question themselves as to what the case involves, and what could've happened. The language used does not appeal to a specific group of people as it is formal and direct. This is written in white against the black background in order to stand out, and approximately size 12, written in a serif font to make it easier to read. This tagline is short and sweet as it reflects on the film title itself, and makes the audience question themselves as to what could’ve happened, which gives that frightening atmosphere towards the audience, especially with the main image as well. It is appealing to the eye as it is placed at the top right with nothing else around it.
The main image is of a female holding her daughter very tightly, assumed to be the main characters in the film. The young girl has a very frightened facial expression as if to say someone is after her and she is holding what could be her mother, very stiff. The older female is holding the younger child firmly; one hand on her head pushing her closer, and the other hand on her back. This main picture gives the audience the impression that it is a horror film and one that will keep you watching throughout. It seems like there is a bright spark of light shining onto the two characters which is really terrifying them. This could make the audience question themselves as to why the two of them are threatened, where the light appears from, and why these two seem like they are alone and shadowed out, as if they are trying to isolate themselves from others. The main image is very creepy and also makes the audience question the tagline and try to figure out the story behind the picture. It also gives a very mysterious effect and cleverly builds solid tension. I think that this poster gives the audience information visually in the form of images rather than writing.
