Vibe is a music and entertainment magazine which was founded by producer Quincy Jones. This magazine features R&B and hip-hop music artists, actors, and other entertainers. The magazine targets young urban followers of the hip hop culture.
In this double page spread, there is white space which is generally around the body text. The pull quote is large and bold beneath the picture to capture the readers attention when flicking through the magazine. The eye flow of this double page spread starts from right to left and back right again. This is like this because when most readers open up a magazine to read it, you are most likely to turn your eye onto the huge picture first then go onto reading the bold article title then back to the picture, in this case back to read the pull quote. There is a caption at the top right of the picture which doesn’t draw the readers’ attention but can still be seen.
The font used here in the body text is a serif font whereas the rest of the article is a sans-serif font. The article title is both serif and sans-serif and is quite big. This is to make it bold and stand out so that its quicker for the audience to pick up. The font scheme is consistent and is also the same case in other pages. We can see that the text in blue stands out the most which is the text that describes the artist. One of them shows his name, and the other states “the win” which shows that he’s taking an important step further.
In this double page spread, the main image takes up a lot of space which is good as it appeals to the reader however there is quite a lot of text. The idea of having the main article title very big and bold in the middle allows the readers to notice that there is not as much text as it looks. I liked this idea as it wasn’t too little or too much information, it looked just about enough especially from the way it was layed out.
Throughout the magazine, in every article and even on the front page, the main consistent colours used in the magazine are white and black with a specific different colour that changes for example this article uses blue, the front cover uses pink, another article uses orange and so on.
The tone addressed in the magazine seems to be very casual and addressed to all sorts of readers. It is also inviting readers to listen to the conversation that they are having. "You know the light-skinned guy always gets the girl". This is quoted from Wale which shows that there is direct language used to the readers by informing them through the word "you" to make them feel involved.
There are many famous artists who present them self as wealthy people for example showing them wearing excessive amount of jewellery whereas Wale presents himself as an average person wearing the normal everyday casuaul jeans, polo and an era cap. He is presented outside and looks relaxed.
The article doesn’t really demand prior knowledge of Wale as it already talks about his career, and includes information about the artist of which you wouldn’t have to have known about him.
